| Even the tiki on the right seems to be a bit spooked in Ramirez's depiction of a tiki village. He does not paint a picture of an idyllic tropical vacation. No, this place is downright uninviting with its red sky and lava spewing volcano. One gets the sense that the tikis are not doing their job of warding off the evil spirits. But, then again, that is the beauty of the painting. You do not actually see the village, just the outside. Maybe inside that tiny door is paradise. Maybe the tikis keep the spirits outside of the walls to hover and swarm, but never to enter. Do you dare to cross the bridge and enter? Ramirez once again challenges us to take chances. | ||||
