| Ramirez's true love and inspiration for his picture of Annie - (a work that is symbolic of Ramirez's prescient feminist perspective that American fashions seek to subjugate the modern woman) was Alicia Carola Casa-Santiago. In spite of his marriage to another woman, Concita Maria Alonzo Ramirez, Pietro set out to capture his secret love on canvas. Alicia was not a Cowgirl and as a matter of fact had a great fear of horses, however Ramirez could not paint her in her natural setting or traditional clothing so as to avoid the suspicion of his violently jealous wife. So we are left with a strange and wonderful piece that captures the beauty of Alicia in an unlikely setting that hides a great love in each brushstroke. | ||||
