I do not remember the refund or not, but it doesn’t matter. Archie McPhee the store behaved perfectly honorably, the DoD was kind of stuffy and wasted a lot of money, but it has been a great fun story to embellish over the years. What I sent them and is written here was what I wrote at the time, so it is reasonably accurate. I still have the letter from the two US attorneys and the DoD agent’s business card.

When the second guy flipped out his huge credentials and the first guy laid the official threatening letter on me, I thought for half a second of saying I no longer had the torpedo, that I had sold it to two guys named Igor and Muhammed … of course, this was before 9-11, when I would probably have not had the chance to even get that far :-)

One doesn’t understand how pervasive government can be until one gets involved with these kinds of suits.

Just happy that the whole thing ended the way it did, and that you’re not in some holding cell being held without charge.
